Esra Işık, who had been detained since March 31 for opposing the expropriation of agricultural lands around Akbelen Forest has been released.
Esra Işık was taken into custody on the night of March 30 following a protest held against the expropriation of agricultural lands surrounding Akbelen Forest in the Milas district of Muğla. She was arrested on March 31 on charges of “resisting to prevent a public official from performing their duty.”
After spending 41 days in prison, Esra Işık has now been released under judicial control measures, including a travel ban.
Esra Işık, who refused to hand over her privately owned land to the mining company Limark, had said, “We do not want to give up our lands and olive groves.” She was assaulted multiple times by gendarmerie forces before subsequently being arrested.
