What is Happening in Syria: A Call for Justice and Accountability
SPOT stands with the people of Syria and their right to determine their future, free from outside actors. At this critical point, we call for genuine democracy and respect for the rights of all Syria’s citizens and those Syrians who have been forced abroad. We condemn Israel’s bombing of Syria on Sunday and seizure of lands around the illegally-occupied Golan Heights. And we condemn the US bombing of Syria on the same day.”
We condemn the Turkish government’s deepening involvement in Syria, including its covert and overt military actions. It is deeply troubling that media outlets close to the Turkish government are legitimising and amplifying the actions of HTS and other extremist groups, further undermining peace and democratic principles in the region.
Shortly after the fall of Damascus, groups supported by Turkey escalated attacks against the Kurdish population, exposing a calculated strategy to suppress Kurdish autonomy and influence in Syria. This aggressive posture aligns with Turkey’s broader ambitions to dominate Syria’s political future by eradicating Kurdish resistance and covertly steering the country’s governance.

We demand respect for vulnerable minorities such as Alevites, Christians, Druze, Ismailis, and Kurds. These people must be allowed a future free from repression and inequality.”
SPOT also strongly denounces the Turkish military’s continued operations in Syria under dubious pretexts. Such actions only deepen the crisis and pave the way for external powers, including the United States and Israel, to exert undue influence in the region, exacerbating instability.
Turkey’s collaboration with jihadist groups to achieve its aims must be unequivocally condemned. The international community must hold Turkey accountable for its actions, ensure the protection of minority communities, and support genuine democratic solutions to the Syrian conflict.
We stand in solidarity with the Kurdish people and all oppressed groups in Syria. We call for an end to Turkey’s military interventions and urge the global community to prioritise peace, justice, and the protection of human rights in the region.
SPOT reaffirms its commitment to exposing and opposing policies that perpetuate violence and oppression, both within Turkey and beyond its borders. We demand accountability and justice for all affected by these destructive actions.
