A legal system has been created in Turkey where it is unclear who will be accused, when, and for what reason. While every criticism of Erdoğan results in detention and arrest, artists are also being accused because of the roles they play. The latest example is Melisa Sözen.
Actress Melisa Sözen was questioned due to a role she played in a series in France. It was reported that Sözen was summoned for questioning on charges of “making terrorist organization propaganda” because she portrayed a female YPJ member in the third season of the French series Le Bureau des Légendes in 2015.
Sözen joined the series in its third season, which was first released in 2016, playing the role of an agent named ‘Esrin’ who infiltrated the YPG fighters battling ISIS in Syria.
