Right to Organise Under Pressure: Only One in Seven Workers Unionised in Türkiye

According to January figures published by the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, only one in every seven workers in Türkiye is a member of a trade union.

Official data show that out of 16.6 million workers in the country, just 2.4 million are union members. The unionisation rate remains at 14.45 per cent, once again highlighting ongoing problems of insecure employment and restrictions on workers’ right to organise.

The ministry’s figures reveal that the vast majority of workers in Türkiye remain unorganised. Widespread precarious working conditions and pressure on trade unions continue to act as key barriers to union membership and collective organisation.

Labour campaigners warn that without stronger protections for organising rights, millions of workers will remain exposed to low pay, unsafe workplaces and job insecurity.
