Eleven thousand metal workers who are members of the United Metalworkers’ Union (Birleşik Metal-İş) carried out a one-hour work stoppage at their workplaces on December 25 in protest against the employers’ association MESS imposing a 10% wage increase. The action was implemented with full participation across three shifts in 43 factories.
The United Metalworkers’ Union, affiliated with DİSK, had previously announced new protest actions against the employers’ demand for a 10% raise during the MESS group collective bargaining agreement process, which affects thousands of metal workers. The actions began today with a one-hour work stoppage per shift. Metal workers marched at their workplaces chanting slogans.
The one-hour work stoppage will continue on Friday, January 2, 2026, and Thursday, January 8, 2026.
