İsmail Arı, a reporter for the newspaper BirGün, which is known for reporting on corruption especially within public institutions, has been detained.
İsmail Arı, who has published reports proving that many state officials took bribes and that corruption occurred within state institutions, had previously been threatened by government officials.
Arı, who was detained on the charge of “publicly spreading misleading information,” is being questioned in Ankara.
Journalists who report on and investigate the government’s corruption continue to receive threats.
Last week, trade unionist Mehmet Türkmen was also arrested on the same grounds.
Even though the information provided by journalists and unionists is accurate, they continue to be detained and arrested on the accusation of “misleading information.”
