Those who lost their lives 3 years ago in Turkey’s February 6 earthquakes centered in Maraş that affected 11 provinces were commemorated in many cities across the country.

During the commemorations, banners reading “No forgetting, no forgiving, no reconciliation” were displayed.

In the statements, it was recalled that more than 53,000 people lost their lives and over 107,000 were injured. It was emphasised that the disaster that occurred on February 6, 2023 was the result of rent-seeking policies, and calls were made for those responsible to be put on trial.

Three years ago, when the earthquake struck, soldiers and police were prevented from being attending to civilians under the rubble on Erdoğan’s orders. They cut off the internet. Officials waited for people to die, then tried to turn the disaster into a narrative of victimhood and used even the smallest service provided as an investment for elections. None of the owners of the major construction companies that were responsible for the deaths in the earthquake have been prosecuted.
